Lumière
2019-2021

Lumière is a series of candelabra sculptures that celebrate different people who contributed to the fields of natural history during the age of enlightenment through the age of wonder. From the mid-seventeenth to late eighteenth centuries there were great developments in science and philosophy across Europe. Each sculpture represents a different scientist, explorer, naturalist, or theorist whose works first expanded the human relationship to nature. Though these figures contributed greatly to our understanding of the natural world, they are still only candles in the dark, and there is so much left for us to discover.
